If we had one sport called 'sports', as such- how would cricket, chess, cue-sports, soccer, tennis, basketball, athletics, etc., 'fit' in?

Unified Sports Expression:
Can we express and analyze every sporting situation across various sports- using one theory? If we can, sportspersons can apply different skills by understanding other sports and also we can invent variants of a sport, ensuring that the variants are interesting and technically sound as well. In Focus...

A boxing and chess match-Unified Sports! In my introduction of Dot Chess, my Cricket book with Chess Concepts, I have covered how various sports must be studied for similarities and differences. One thing common between boxing and chess is that there is a concept of knockout in both games- which means accumulating points (or material in chess) must always be in context of that sudden knockout punch or a checkmate...It must be noted however that my idea of Unfied Sports Expression is not about playing two sports independently, as in this link- but to use competitive motifs from one sport into another. But this is a good combo nonetheless!

Magnus Carlsen the wonder kid is surprising GMs like Kramnik and Topalov with unconventional openings. He sure is here to stay and go a long way...

Stephen Hendry on YouTube nice development of reds from the pack... v Jimmy White, 1995. This video clearly shows why he was the master of big breaks.

Reference & Resources...

The Encyclopedia of Chess Openings- with a brief overview of each opening!

chessgames.com every game from Napolean onwards is here. They do a great job of live coverage (members) and their Java interface will keep Sun Microsystems alive for a long time.

cricinfo.com if you follow cricket, you perhaps are aware that this is the home of cricket online. I would like their Statsguru to be better, but it is still the most complete dB around.

youtube.com searching for a video of a past great sportsperson? You are likely to find some at youtube. The quality will most likely be optimized for the web, but a boon nonetheless.

Behind the scenes...

My core work on creating a system by which we can express sporting situations from different sports, in a consistent and formal manner continues. Some of it is available on Cricket book with Chess concepts, since it was important to try to identify what is common across various sports- then we can put things in a better perspective.

There are many other short e-book and print books I have in the pipeline(s). I am sorting out my notes and it seems that something related to T20 Cricket should make it out of the door before other topics (I have not given chess a break, Magnus Carlsen is going to keep me glued to the ECO (Encyclopedia of Chess Openings) and so will Anand-Kramink later.
