In Focus...

Mumbai Indians sorted teams without a spinner!
Tendulkar and Pollock managed to do what Clive Llyod's Team would have perhaps done- to be able to dominate in India without a spinner! It is quite surprising that most analysts could not gauge the daunting task of bowling in the latter phase of the IPL without a spinner (of course, due to an event which was beyond anticipation).

Shane Warne's Blitz Chess in the T20 IPL!
If you compare T20 cricket to a blitz game of chess, then Shane Warne was right on the money. Sharp positional play and tactical as well, full of gambles and unorthodox gambits. Warne also perhaps took the only wicket in the IPL to a defensive shot, when he dismissed Dhoni in their Chennai encounter.

Chinese Tricks in Cricket? Praveen Kumar, Sohail Tanvir, and now Ajantha Mendis..
With limited overs format becoming more dominant, bowlers who can wobble the ball or do unconventional things, will succeed. As a batsman, before you sort them out, you are gone- as strike rate dictates the intent.
The scope of this site...

As you can see from the stubs on top, I like to dabble in few diverse subject matter. I am really passionate about the way we use technology. Does it simplify those aspects of routine work which we can do without? And more positively, are we finding newer ways to do things previously not possible? User authentication and e-transactions via Mobile devices, Reference Tools Online, On-Demand Content/Apps- is it all coming together finally? Or will there always be a gap between technology and the way we live with it?

As far as photography is concerned- I shoot travel stock and also explore ways of digital manipulation, archiving and presentation of visuals. So do expect some ideas on digital/web techniques. I will cover many sporting issues related to Cricket, Chess, Cue-Sports, Tennis, Soccer etc. However, I am in the process of inventing enough variants in each sport, so that any given sport can be played using concepts from others- Universal Sports Expression!
Source of ideas and inspiration...

Technology-wise I come from the Apple/Mac side of the camp- if there is such a thing. Alan Kay, Steve Jobs, Bill Atkinson, Andy Hertzfeld, Bruce Tognazzini. XML/Java has surely helped me create web interfaces just as Applescript has helped me automate desktop interfaces.

Photography- Ernst Hass, Ansel Adams, and John Sexton. These photographers would cover a broad range of fluid expression and technical brilliance. I do not paint but impressionists like Monet and others like Rembrandt, who have mastery of lighting- can make any photographer envious.

Philosophy- every school in India and the Orient, specifically Navya Nyaya (I owe a lot of my understanding to the Bhandarkar Institue, Pune and Goswami Shyam Manohar). From the west, Bertrand Russell & Set Theorists- in a modern sense; and Greek philosophy from an ancient context, are key to some of my methods as well. Recently, I have been learning first hand from Thailand, Bali and Japan- various methods of contemplation and aspects of design principles as well.

Sports- since the past few years, I have been seeing every sport as a form of chess. Chess theory is diverse but I try to study Capablanca, Nimzowitsch, Fischer, Tal, Kasparov, Karpov and recently Anand, Topalov, Kramnik and Carlsen. Outside chess, I currently follow Tendulkar, Lara, Warne, McGrath, Kumble (Cricket); Earl Strickland, Reyes and most 9-ball players; Geet Sethi, Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry (Snooker/Billiards). Federer vs Nadal has been nice as well. However, a Jan-Ove Waldner clip (Table Tennis), will always make my day or my dreams.
